Newcastle set to make summer move to sign prolific Ligue 1 striker – Report

According to Calcio Mercato, Newcastle are eyeing a summer move to sign Nice star Alassane Plea – the French striker who has scored 17 times for the Ligue 1 side this season.

The report states that Newcastle are one of THREE Premier League clubs eyeing the forward, with Everton and Burnley also credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.

Whilst several NUFC fans will be dubious about potential imports from across the channel (see Cabella, Mbiwa etc.), Plea has scored an impressive 31 goals across his last two seasons in France.

He is Nice’s top scorer with 17 goals and 6 assists across the current campaign, having also scored 14 goals for them last season – the year he helped them qualify for the Champions League after an impressive 3rd place finish.

He tends to operate as a central striker, but he is also capable of playing down either flank.

Whether Benitez holds genuine interest in the Frenchman remains to be seen, but Rafa will be scouring the foreign markets for top talent this summer, and Plea may just be one he’s watching after his impressive form in France.
