£16m release clause revealed for Premier League striker – one NUFC will look at this summer?

An exclusive in the Telegraph has revealed that West Brom striker Salomon Rondon has a £16m relegation release clause in his West Brom contract – making us wonder if the powerful Venezuelan could be one Rafa Benitez considers taking a look at this summer?

He’s a player Newcastle have been credited with an interest in the past, albeit during his Malaga several years ago, however his style of play is that of a player I believe Benitez would be interested in.

The 6ft 2′ forward has never been prolific across his three seasons in the Premier League so far (averages 9 goals a season), but he is an impressive athlete, a hard worker, a big unit capable of leading the line on his own and someone who can be unplayable on his day.

I’m not so sure he’s the answer given we’ll be on the lookout for a proven goalscorer, but he’s someone Benitez may just like to work with and could be a very useful option to add to our ranks if our striking department endured a major overhaul this summer.

Quite tragically, the Baggies received a whopping bid of £33m from Chinese Super League team Tianjin Quanjian back in January, however it seems he’ll be sold for exactly half that when their relegation to the Championship is confirmed.

What do you reckon folks? He’s a handful, a hard worker and one I would love to see work under Benitez, but I imagine his average goal record in England would be fan’s biggest worry..

  1. 16 million you having a laugh… A championship striker at best. This speculation is nothing more than fictional nonsense we certainly won’t pay 16 million for a average player that is no better than what we already have.
