Pundit reveals what Rafa Benitez has told him about his future at Newcastle United

Speaking on TalkSPORT this morning, ex-NUFC striker Mick Quinn has shared some interesting details of his recent conversation with Rafa Benitez, stating that he ‘wants to stay’ – but the club must match his ambition.

With Sunday’s win confirming our safety and our Premier League status for next season, we can fully expect talk surrounding Benitez’s future at the club to resurface.

Speaking on Alan Brazil’s Breakfast Show for TalkSPORT this morning, here’s what Mick Quinn has had to say about Rafa’s future at the club – with him claiming to have spoken to the NUFC boss last Friday:

“Let me put this to bed straight away [that Benitez could join Arsenal. He wants to stay at Newcastle, he’s got a year left, and he’s had other offers,”

“If he gets the backing he will stay at Newcastle. He loves the club and the fans. I was speaking to him on Friday, actually, and he wants to see this job through and see Newcastle above Arsenal next year, possibly in the top six.

“That’s the ambition Benitez has, but it’s whether Newcastle can match that ambition. I got this from the horse’s mouth on Friday.”

The situation is quite clear, and this from Mick only emphasises most of what we already know.

Rafa loves Newcastle and is intent on making us great again, but he knows that this can only be achieved with the right backing.

As Mick suggests, Rafa wants to challenge Arsenal and see us climb into the top 6. An ambitious target, but one that simply cannot be achieved unless Ashley changes his ways.

Further proof that Ashley must sell up to an owner capable of matching Benitez’s brilliant ambitions for our beloved club.
