An incredible comparison of NUFC fans’ comments on Mo Diame from 2017 to 2018 – from zero to hero

December 2017 and Mo Diame was sarcastically cheered off at St James’ after a truly awful display, with several fans hoping this was to be his last with the January window looming.

Just a few months later and he’s being tipped by some to win our player of the season award, going from zero to hero amongst NUFC fans.

With this truly incredible turnaround in mind, we’ve fished out some tweets from fans from 2017 (when he was struggling in the Championship and at the start of our Premier League season) and from now in the 2018 (a few months on from his return to the side since the turn of the year).

@CompleteNUFC“Anyone defending Diame on here needs a slap. The bloke is one of the worst midfielders i’ve ever seen in Black & White.”

@TucJr82“He needs selling in Jan to get rid of his wage he absolutely doesn’t earn. He is lazy beyond belief, has no heart, determination, dedication and certainly no respect for the shirt, team, club, Rafa and the staff and also all of us fans. One of our worst buys ever.”

@NUFC_Index “I think he’s absolutely s***e and one of the worst players ever to wear the shirt.”

@Bobc78 – “Diame is absolutely terrible. Even Colback was better!!”

@Seanio88“Diame (*angry emoji*) Annoying, unfit, disappointing, frustrating, awful, useless, rubbish, s**t, ****, worst of all..Sissoko was better.”

@GDawson7“How on earth does Diame get a game? Without doubt the worst footballer I’ve seen in a Newcastle shirt! Absolute fraud!”

@CompleteNUFC“People whinging because Diame got booed. He gets paid a **** load of money to basically put in 0 effort every time he steps onto the pitch. Shows literally no commitment or willingness to attack or defend and has the worst work rate i have seen in a very long time. *****.”

What a contrast!

From one of the ‘worst’ players supporters had seen in black and white, a waste of space and one of the laziest players fans claimed to have seen, to a monster in midfield, full of energy and a genuine candidate for one of our players of the season.

An incredible turnaround and one that has made so many fans eat their words!

Hats off Mo! Brilliant stuff.
