Garth Crooks names his standout NUFC player from Sunday’s win over Arsenal

Garth Crooks has named the ‘outstanding’ Mo Diame in his Premier League team of the week following his  performance against Arsenal, believing the ‘rejuvenated’ midfielder is looking ‘so fit and in such good form’.

The pundit has a tendency to frustrate supporters with his bold and seemingly uninformed comments, but he’s got it spot on here with Diame – also echoing the thoughts of NUFC fans when it comes to Ashley’s ownership.

During his piece for the BBC following Sunday’s win over Arsenal, here’s what Garth has to say about NUFC and Mo Diame – the Senegalese midfielder who made his Premier League team of the week:

“I was laughed out of court when I suggested Rafael Benitez has the ability to bring titles to St James’ Park. Well, he’s not won the Premier League with this group of players – but how he’s amassed 41 points with games to spare.

“Mo Diame is among the many players Benitez has rejuvenated at Newcastle. Not since his days at West Ham have I seen the Senegal international look so fit and in such good form. Against Arsenal, Diame was outstanding, as were the entire Newcastle team. What a pity the Magpies are not in the hands of someone who really appreciates what this club, their supporters and their manager have to offer.”

He’***** the nail on the head with Diame. I watched him quite a bit during his time at Wigan and West Ham, and although he was more of a dynamic and forward thinking midfielder back then, he seems to have recaptured that physicality and engine that he was renowned for.

The last line is bang on too. If we had an owner who matched the passion of our fans and the ambition of Benitez then we really would be on to something.
