Exclusive claims NUFC are battling Brighton & Everton to sign striker on a free this summer

According to an exclusive in the Daily Express, Newcastle are competing with Brighton and Everton to sign Strasbourg’s top scorer Stéphane Bahoken – the Ligue 1 striker who is set to be available on a free transfer this summer.

The 25-year-old has recently earned his first call-up to the Cameroon national squad after impressing in France, but he is out of contract at the end of the season and ourselves, Brighton and Everton are all interested according to the Express.

It’s claimed that Chris Hughton’s Brighton are currently favourites to sign him, however this won’t come as too much of a concern to Newcastle fans – with his goalscoring record being mediocre at best.

He’s scored 8 goals in 27 appearances for a relegation threatened Strasbourg this season, however only managed 7 goals in the second tier of French football last year.

He may be a late bloomer and a shrewd buy to bulk up our anaemic striking options, but I can’t see him being a player that adds a great deal of goals to our Premier League team given he’s never got into double fingers in France.

Either way, here’s him in action this season:
