David Luiz has admitted that he recommended Newcastle and Rafa Benitez to Kenedy prior to his loan move in January, admitting the Brazilian is now ‘in love’ with the club – another hint that he’s desperate to sign permanently this summer.
This comes from Craig Hope’s brilliant piece in the Daily Mail today, with Luiz admitting that he’s now watching all of Newcastle’s game to see his good friend in action and ‘cheering all the goals’.
Here’s what he’s had to say about the Kenedy – the ‘great boy with a big heart’ who is loving life in the North-East:
“You see his tattoos and the ripped jeans and you think he is a crazy boy, but he is shy. His past was not easy, he is from the street. But he is a great boy with a big heart.
“I try to watch all of Newcastle’s games and he calls me to ask about his performance.
“But he should not worry, he has been amazing. I am cheering all the goals.’
“I spoke with him before he left in January and told him he would love Newcastle,’
“I told him about the great support and atmosphere. Now he is in love. I am not surprised.
“Rafa Benitez is also a great friend of mine. I told Kenedy that he would find a special coach, a special person who would improve him as a player and also as a man. I told him he is in good hands.”
Not only has Kenedy confirmed he’d be happy to sign permanently at St James’ Park, this interview with Luiz only reinforces his ‘love’ for the club.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Chelsea centre-back was actually tentatively linked with a surprise move to Tyneside back in January, with Benitez said to be a big admirer of his.
Their relationship seems clear here, with Luiz admitting that Rafa is a ‘great friend’ and a ‘special coach’, with him also praising the ‘great support’ and ‘atmosphere’ at Newcastle United.
It’s a great interview and one that portrays both Kenedy and Luiz in a brilliant light. Who knows, we might just see both playing in black and white if Rafa gets his way!
