Aleksandar Mitrovic’s alleged summer price-tag revealed – but it doesn’t make any sense..

It was claimed by ‘the People’ on Sunday that Newcastle have set a £20m price tag for Aleksandar Mitrovic – however there’s several reasons why we just can’t see this being the case.

Firstly, it would be idiotic of NUFC to name their price prior to the World Cup. He’s set to spearhead Serbia’s attack in Russia, so an impressive summer on the back of his outstanding spell with Fulham would see his value rocket even further.

Not only that, I just don’t see how he could be valued at £20m based on the massively inflated market we’re currently working in.

Fulham will be desperate to sign him, so the ball is in our court to begin with, but let’s not forget that the Cottagers were rebuffing . £25m bids for Cairney less than a year ago.

Not only has the going rate gone up considerably since then, Cairney was a player with no real Premier League experience or international pedigree and is several years his senior.

With this in mind, I see no reasons why we wouldn’t demand at least £25m – especially if they are to get promoted and become our rivals next season.

He may have struggled at times at St James’ Park, but he’s still just 23, has an impressive record at international level and is showing just what he’s capable of after scoring 11 goals in 12 games for Fulham so far.

We’re in a position of power with regards to this deal and there’ll be several clubs in the mix to sign him this summer, so setting the bar low and showing our hand too early would be stupid.

  1. You say Cairney isnt proven Premiership but in that regard Mitrovic most definitely isnt.

  2. clarence pants: It was claimed by ‘the People’ on Sunday that Newcastle have set a £20m price tag for Aleksandar Mitrovic – however there’s several reasons why we just can’t see this being the case.

Cairney has barely kicked a ball in the PL (and he’s 27). Mitrovic scored 9 goals in his first full season in the PL at 21 years of age. Andre Gray did exactly the same for Burnley and he cost £20m – yet he’s not proven at international level and is about 4 years older too.

  3. It does make sense if Newcastle want to sign Tom Cairney, who Fulham value at £20 million. The players can then ‘swap’ teams for no money exchanged, and Rafa gets a player he would like, for one he doesn’t!

  4. let the lad go, you’ll just ruin his career with all these numbers…if you dont want him just let him go, he deserved to go free of charge with all the love he gave to the fans and the patience he had
