NUFC reject set for surprise return to English football? Swansea, Everton & Burnley all linked

According to the Mirror, Swansea are ‘leading the chase’ to sign former Newcastle defender James Tavernier – with Everton and Burnley also eyeing a summer move to sign the Rangers full-back.

The 26-year-old was on our books for six years between 2008 and 2014, however spent most of that time out on loan, playing just 11 times in black and white.

He joined Rangers following their drop down into Scotland’s second tier in 2015 but has been a big hit at Ibrox ever since, boasting an outstanding record of  25 goals and 39 assists in 137 games.

His side were smashed 5-0 at Celtic Park on Sunday (a game that gave the Hoops another SPL title), but Tavernier, now the Rangers captain, is being tracked by Swansea, Everton and Burnley this summer according to The Mirror.

After some pretty uneventful years on Tyneside back when he was a young prospect, it’d be interesting to see just how much he’s improved if he earned a Premier League move.

A player we let go too soon or one who’s just found his level in Scotland?
