Newcastle United have joined West Ham and Swansea in the race to sign Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen according to a report in the Sun this morning.
After their relegation to the Championship on Saturday, it’s inevitable that they will lose several of their star players this summer – and it looks like the Welsh international will be one of them, being one of the few consistent performers for the Potters this season.
The Sun claim the 28-year-old will be available for £20m this summer, however I can’t see us paying that sort of money for a recently relegated player who’s fast approaching his 30’s.
He’s a good player and a hard worker, so would fit well into Rafa Benitez’s current set up, but I’m not sure we’ll be in the market for an industrious central midfielder like Allen at this price.
Another to take with a pinch of salt (coming from the Sun), but the sort of player Benitez could be interested in taking from Stoke?
