Speaking during the latest True Faith podcast, The Times’ North-East correspondent George Caulkin believes Amanda Staveley will make another bid to buy the club – but believes Ashley WON’T find a buyer this summer if the asking price is in fact £400m.
Staveley has only given one big interview since her interest in taking over at St James’ Park was made public last October, and that was with George Caulkin – the special guest on this week’s True Faith podcast.
The brilliant podcast features his take on our form in 2018 and Rafa Benitez’s future, however we’ve picked out his response to questions on the potential takeover – with him offering a very interesting insight into Amanda Staveley’s interest.
Here’s what he’s had to say when addressing Staveley’s interest, the current state of play and what it could mean if Ashley is actually demanding £400m for the club:
“Amanda Staveley, someone asked me and I said ‘she’s still around’, so what does that sort of mean?”
“I’m very conscious – I don’t want to say anything that would hamper things if there’s a chance of the club being sold – but it means that she’s still interested.”
“She’s been talking to investors and that sort of stuff has carried on. Certainly at the start of the year she was talking to people in Newcastle about what might happen and how she could take the club forward.
“There have been talks between people close to her and around the Ashley camp, but there hasn’t been anything direct as A) there was the big fall out B) once January was gone nobody would buy it at that point because they couldn’t influence what happened this season and then there was the television deal and relegation. All those things have now gone.
“All those things have no gone. I’ve always said that I think she’ll bid again and people close to her have intimated that, but not at £400m.I just can’t see that
“I think that would take up too much money that she’d earmarked to spend on players, the training ground, infrastructure and things like that – and I don’t think the value of the club has gone up that much.”
“As with everything this is my opinion with a bit of knowledge in it as I’ve kept in touch with her and people around her and we speak very regularly. She’s wanting to do it.”
Some VERY interesting insights from George here.

What do you make of all this folks?
This take over is like a never ending story , the fact is if Stavely really wanted us and had the financial power she would now be the owner . A takeover will happen at Some point but it wont be her and it might take years yet . To be honest , while i am no Ashley supporter we could have worse . I am old enough too remember the dark days of the mckeag years and believe me , we spent much less then than we do now on transfers( in comparison ). Ashley is a parasite that has the keys too the castle for now but not for ever.

“VERY interesting”?
Insolent go that far mate. Basically IF there is a CHANCE the club COULD be sold. Stavely COULD still be interested, but not if he’s asking 400 mil.
I could have told you that mate.
