Club’s media partner claim Everton will make a £25m bid to sign NUFC star this summer

According to the Mirror, Everton are lining up a £25m bid for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles – with Spurs and Chelsea also believed to be watching the defender in recent months.

The skipper has been a colossus at the back all season and has gained several admirers, with the story claiming the Toffees are preparing a big offer this summer in a bid to bolster their defence.

Fortunately, Lascelles is tied to the club until 2023 after signing a new improved six-year deal at the back end of last year, however there’s the worry that Mike Ashley would cash in at the right price – even if it involves a player so important to this side.

As we saw last summer, Everton aren’t scared to spend, but I do struggle to see why he’d swap captaincy at St James’ Park and playing each week under Rafa Benitez for a place in Big Sam’s side.

We’ll run the risk of losing him if we don’t show enough ambition and prohibit his England hopes as a result, but I only see him being remotely tempted this summer if Rafa left and/or one of the big boys came in with an offer the club couldn’t refuse.

  1. £25m hahahaha, they might want to add another £25m plus Tosun and Siggurdson on top of that and then they might be close to his valuation. Best centre back in the league by a distance and a future England captain. Nice try big Sam

  2. Why would he want to go to Everton?
If he was to leave the Toon surely he would want to improve himself and go to a top side who are in the Champions League, rather than Everton who are always in the shadow of Liverpool, have a crappy little ground populated by the most miserable and deluded fans in the league, fighting relegation year on year, he gets that at the Toon!
Also £25m?? and am I the only one who thinks Lejeune is a better player?
