Cardiff City ‘close’ to signing NUFC reject all set to be axed by Rafa Benitez this summer

After ‘impressive’ on trial with Neil Warnock’s newly promoted side, the Sun claim that Newcastle United goalkeeper Paul Woolston is close to completing a move to Cardiff City.

The club recently announced that he will NOT be handed a new contract at St James’ Park, and it looks like he’s close to completing his next move, with Neil Warnock having him on trial at Cardiff over the past few weeks.

The 19-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the senior squad and has only played a handful of games for the U-23’s this season, however he has represented England at U-17 and U-18 level.

Here’s what the Sun have had to say on his next move, claiming he’s had interest from ‘the Championship and Spain’ but looks set to join Cardiff on a free:

“Cardiff are in pole position to sign Newcastle’s England youth international keeper Paul Woolston.

“The 19-year-old stopper, who is being released by the Toon this summer, impressed during a recent trial with the Bluebirds.

“And Neil Warnock’s Premier League-bound side are now considering offering a deal for Woolston, who has also attracted interest from other clubs in the Championship and Spain.”

He’s clearly a talent, having made the grade at youth level with England, but you can see why we’ve moved him on. With Dubravka, Darlow, Elliot and Woodman (an England U-23 international) all above him in the pecking order, this may be the best for all parties.
