The Daily Mirror’s Chief Football Writer, John Cross, has suggested that Jonjo Shelvey is still a player England can’t trust, stating he’s not selected for reasons aside from his ability – a comment that has been brilliantly shot down by Newcastle fans on social media.
What’s worse, is the Mirror are claiming he won’t even be considered for selection over the next few days. Incredible.
Now, we all know Shelvey has been a hot head, a loose cannon and someone who has let us down in the past, but there’s CLEAR signs over the past 6 months that he’s learning his lesson – and examples of this have been highlighted quite clearly in response to this uninformed post about the midfielder.
Here’s John’s comment, followed by the backlash he faced in response from NUFC fans:
There’s a reason why Shelvey doesn’t get picked for England and it’s clearly nothing to do with ability.

“There’s a reason why Shelvey doesn’t get picked for England and it’s clearly nothing to do with ability.”
Lazy journalism. Make a comment to sound like fact, fail to back it up and then go quiet when people ask him to elaborate. Clearly hasn't watched Shelvey #nufc https://t.co/fBzbxHe0C0

After being handed the man of the match award by Sky following Sunday’s 3-0 mauling of Chelsea, most were singing Jonjo’s praises – and rightly so after his sensational form – but there’s always one who spouts rubbish before doing their research.
