Exclusive claims Benitez is pushing to bring Chelsea duo to St James’ Park this summer

According to an exclusive from TEAMtalk today, Rafa Benitez is hoping to sign both Kenedy AND Tammy Abraham from Chelsea this summer – suggesting he is still interested in the striker he thought he’d signed on loan last year.

We know all about our interest in bringing Kenedy back to St James’ Park this summer, whether it be a loan or permanent deal, but it’s interesting to hear Rafa could go back in for Abraham – the 20-year-old talent who bagged 8 goals and 5 assists during Swansea’s relegation season.

Here’s a snippet from TEAMtalk’s piece, claiming that we are set to be given the ‘first option’ to sign both this summer:

“Newcastle have asked Chelsea to take Kenedy back on loan next season –  and they also want to bring a Stamford Bridge teammate with him, sources have told TEAMtalk.

“Benitez looked to land Abraham last summer, but he opted for Swansea – however, Chelsea are now keen for both players to go out on loan again – and Newcastle are set to get first option on both players.”

One thing that isn’t clear is exactly how this double-deal would work, with us being unable to sign two players on loan from the same club.

If true, perhaps we will be pursuing a permanent deal for Kenedy and a loan deal for Abaraham (or vice versa?).

Some have their doubts over Abraham, but I for one think he’s a real talent and someone who would be a marked improvement on our current options. He’s tall, mobile, works hard, has good movement and looks deadly in the box.

He may not be the answer to all our goalscoring worries, and I’d expect another proven striker to be signed if he arrived this summer, but I’d back him to be a real success if he did eventually sign.

Indeed. No for him, yes for Kenedy
