Richard Keys launches unbelievable attack on Rafa Benitez – Utter lies from the ex-Sky presenter

Former Sky presenter Richard Keys is at it again, jumping to the defence of Mike Ashley and throwing sly digs at Rafa Benitez, claiming ‘Ashley was right after all’ – despite lying through his teeth when stating how much he’s given the Spaniard to spend.

Clearly on the wind up, but he needs to be called out on this. It may be total rubbish, but it still goes out to the masses – and it’s only right to put the story straight when he’s making up what he claims to be facts and using them against Benitez.

Here’s what he’s had to say on his own blog today – starting with a petty sarcastic dig at the Spaniard:

“Well done Rafa. It turns out Mike Ashley was right after all.

“After spending £102m on 18 players the previous season Ashley always believed Benitez had enough to make Newcastle comfortable. He did. Now comes Rafa’s big test.

“I’m tired of reading about his threats to leave if he doesn’t get his own way. He won’t get his own way.

“I’ve no idea where Benitez will find a better job – because he certainly wouldn’t enjoy working at West Ham.

“We’re in for some big changes in the dug outs this summer – more changes than we’ve ever seen.

“As owners go searching for men with a magic wand here’s something to think about.

“It remains the case – and always will – that the teams with the best players are going to be successful. Be careful what you wish for…..”

The first ‘congratulatory’ line is sarcastic and pretty pathetic and, astonishingly, he then jumps to the defence of none other than Mike Ashley. And this is when his lies begin.

He claims we spent £102m on 18 players last season. Not true. Ashley may have backed Rafa well (for once) prior to our Championship season, but we spent just over £50 on 12 players (not 18) and took in £90m from players sales (Wijnaldium, Sissoko etc.).

So, that’s a PROFIT of £40m when it comes to ins and outs, not a spend of £102m.

Also, I’m really not sure what ‘this is Rafa’s big test’ is meant to mean? The bloke showed his commitment by dropping down to the Championship and going from the Bernabeu to Burton away in the space of 12 months. Given what he’s done in the circumstances and what he’s gone through for us, the fans, how dare he question that he could failed his ‘test’ if he doesn’t stay.

He’s done everything in his power to make Ashley keep him – yet Keys is clearly siding with Ashley. A bloke who’s sat in Barbados while we (and Rafa) are left in total chaos.

It’s full of lies and childish sly digs and truly pathetic stuff from Keys. Grow up.
