Benitez ‘makes contact’ to sign Juventus midfielder – The perfect buy for Rafa’s NUFC?

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United have made an enquiry over the potential signing of Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro this summer – a player who could fit in perfectly at Rafa Benitez’s NUFC.

This is not the first time Benitez has been credited with an interest, with the players agent admitting last winter that we were one of several clubs who’d shown an interest in the 25-year-old.

Today’s story from Calciomercato claim we have now made contact with Juventus to enquire about his availability and potential price, with the report claiming that the Serie A giants are open to selling him this summer.

The Italian international made just 19 appearances in all comps last season and is a box-to-box midfielder, known for his work rate, tough tackling and ‘all action’ approach, making him a popular figure in Turin.

With Colback and Saivet set to be sold, Merino’s future up in the air and doubts over Hayden’s ability to cut it at this level, Benitez will be looking to add some competition to his midfield – and Sturaro could be his man.

He fits the bill when it comes to the sort of character and quality player Benitez will want this summer, so he could be one to watch.
