Exclusive claims Rafa Benitez is ‘keen’ to sign Arsenal midfielder this summer

According to the Daily Star, Newcastle are one of several Premier League sides keen to sign Jack Wilshere this summer – the Arsenal midfielder who could be available on a free if he fails to agree a new contract with the Gunners.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been credited with an interest in Wilshere and probably won’t be the last, with his future well and truly up in the air at the Emirates.

He played several times last season under Arsene Wenger and looked revitalised at times, but with Unai Emery now in charge and no new deal in place, it’s claimed that we are one of many sides interested in taking him on a free.

Here’s a snippet from the Daily Star:

“Pellegrini is poised to renew his interest – although West Ham will not be alone in the hunt.

“Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Premier League new-boys Wolves and Fulham are keen.

“Whether Wilshere, 26, is available depends on crunch talks this month with new Gunners coach Unai Emery.”

He’d definitely give us something different and the sort of creative spark we often lack, however I can’t see this one coming off.

Not only would he be a huge risk based on his recent injury record, his wages would almost certainly be massive (especially if he goes on a free), meaning the likes of Everton, West Ham or the free-spending Wovles could easily trump us in that department.

A good player on his day, but based on the two factors above, I wouldn’t mind if Rafa ended up looking elsewhere.
