Journalist reveals what Jamaal Lascelles told him when asked about his future at NUFC

After speculation today that Everton are readying a £30m bid for Jamaal Lascelles, North-East reporter Miles Starforth has admitted that he has no intention of leaving Newcastle – saying ‘this is the happiest I’ve been’ when asked about his future.

With Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham and Everton having all been linked with a summer move for the skipper over the last few months, it’s natural for us to be uneasy about his future (especially when Ashley is our owner). However all the noises coming from the man himself are that he’s here to stay.

I do feel that his long-term future rests on our ability to keep Benitez and progress as a club, but, based on his latest comments here, he does not sound remotely interested in leaving the club anytime soon:

‘This is the happiest I’ve been.

“I’m playing week in, week out. I’m the captain here.

“The fans love me. I’ve got a good relationship with them, because I love them.’

There’ll be constant reports linking him with a big money move elsewhere this summer, and whilst Ashley may be tempted to cash in if a silly offer arrives, I really can’t see him leaving anytime soon.

Newcastle United is the best place for him right now and he knows it.

  1. I believe that Rafa will see his contract out and if there is no progress in his contract negotiations he will leave at the end of next season. Lascelles has progressed leaps and bounds under Rafa and I believe he will stay for another year knowing that if his improvement continues he will then go to a bigger and better club than Everton, who in my opinion are in as much turmoil as we are. Four managers in is it four years is hardly stable.
