Benitez hoping for ‘good news’ from Lee Charnley as he pushes to secure FOUR signings – Report

Rafa Benitez has asked for a transfer update from Lee Charnley as he hopes for good news on the transfer front – with the Northern Echo revealing that he is pushing to sign a striker, winger, midfielder and defender as a ‘starting point’ this summer.

Whilst his long-term future is yet to be sorted (with it seeming as though talks over a new contract aren’t going anywhere fast), he’ looks set to be here for at least another season and will have been busy over the past few weeks working on potential incomings.

The report claims that he is wanting at least FOUR new signings – with a striker, winger, midfielder and defender all put to Lee Charnley as a ‘starting point’ – and he’s believed to have got in touch with NUFC’s managing director to ask for an update on our progress.

Here’s a snippet from the Echo’s piece today:

“RAFA BENITEZ is looking for an update on Newcastle United’s transfer front in the early part of this week.

“Benitez, yet to sign a new deal, wants to hear some good news from managing director Lee Charnley, knowing it is not just the forward area where he wants new faces.

“Benitez wants a new striker, winger, midfielder and defender just as a starting point, and that is before factoring in any further departures.”

There’s no need for panic – with two months of the window left to run, but Benitez will be keen to see us do business early – especially with the World Cup likely to complicate matters.

With Dubravka our only buy thus far, here’s hoping we see another transfer breakthrough soon enough.
