NUFC make shock move for Mario Gotze after struggling spell at Borussia Dortmund – Report

According to the Mirror, Newcastle have made a ‘tentative enquiry’ over the possible signing of forgotten Borussia Dortmund’s man Mario Gotze – the playmaker who looks set to move on this summer after his recent struggles in Germany.

Ironically, he was the man that helped Germany to the last World Cup four years ago, however he’s struggled to kick on ever since, with injuries and a recent metabolic disease seeing him struggle to recapture the form that saw him sign for Bayern Munich just a few years ago.

He’s believed to have shown ‘flashes’ of his talent since returning to the Dortmund side, but, with just two goals last season, the Mirror claim that he’s now hoping for a move to the Premier League to kick start his career.

Here’s a snippet from their latest piece, confirming interest from Newcastle and several other Premier League sides, with Dortmund ready to cash in at ‘around £18m’:

“Mario Gotze – the man who won the last World Cup – wants to move to England to revive his career.

“A string of Premier League clubs have been alerted to Borussia Dortmund playmaker Gotze’s availability this summer.

“Arsenal, Everton and West Ham are among the clubs keeping tabs on the 26 year old’s situation.

“And Leicester and Newcastle have made tentative enquiries for Gotze, who would cost around £18million, too.

“He returned in July last year and showed flashes of his ability last season but not enough to earn a place in Germany’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.”

With us yet to even make a bid for a player according to the Chronicle, I’m not holding my breath, although you can see why we’ve shown interest when a player of his potential could be available at around £18m – a fee that *might* just be in our price bracket.

What do you reckon folks – Any chance of us pulling this one off or will a deal like this be out of our reach under Ashley?

  1. Anything involving anything to do with football will be out of our reach under Ashley.

  2. Not a hope that Ashley will spend more than half that on any one player. He must see the return for layout on a player like Murphy and think to himself, “No, not again.” And, Gotze would come with big wage demands, too. Another reason why Ashley will say “No.”
Ashley is NOT a true believer. He doesn’t care about NUFC. He doesn’t understand football. And, he thinks there is still a quid to be made out of the game. Ok, he’s done alright out of a decade playing football supremo, but he hasn’t won anything or earnt any accolades, and imagine what he might have done if he’d spent that past decade building up his business empire (instead of pissing in fireplaces!).
Unfortunately for us, he is a dumb-****, and the penny will never drop…
