According to the Mirror, Newcastle have made a £20m bid to re-sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace – however it looks set to be rejected.
John Cross’ latest piece claims that Rafa Benitez is desperate to strengthen his squad and is keen to be reunited with the winger this summer.
It sounds like they’re unwilling to do business at £20m (so this may be a non starter!), with them hoping to see a bidding war begin after being aware of interest from Leicester, however the story insists that they may decide to cash in on him at the right price.
Here’s what the Mirror have had to say:
Newcastle have made a £20m bid for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.
Palace have insisted they will not sell at that price – and they are now hoping for a bidding war with Leicester City also keen on the former England winger.
Townsend, 26, had six months at Newcastle and they are keen to bring him back with Rafa Benitez desperate to strengthen his squad.
But Leicester are also keen as they look for replacements for Riyad Mahrez who is destined to join Manchester City this summer.
Leicester have keen on Townsend in the past and Palace are aware of their interest in the ex-Spurs star.
Townsend has three years left on his current deal at Palace but they may decide to sell this summer as they look to shake up their squad this summer.

Some won’t want him back, but he was immense under Benitez prior to our relegation and he’d he’d soon be forgiven if he came back and started firing.
His pace, energy direct style and ability to score and create goals is exactly what we’re lacking.
We’ll see what comes of this, but I for one am hoping this is true.
