According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Newcastle have made a late £10m bid for Croatian playmaker Lovro Majer – an offer that’s claimed to have trumped Sampdoria’s £7m move for the Lokomotiv Zagreb star.
It remains to be seen as to whether this is actually true, however it appears as though we’ve made a last ditch attempt to sign the highly-rated 20-year-old who recently earned a call-up to Croatia’s national side after 14 goals and 5 assists last season.
Calciomercato claim that Majer’s move to Sampdoria was described as ‘imminent’, but thy now report that Newcastle have now out-bid them, offering £10m.
They also claim that we’re prepared to offer him a salary worth €1.1m (£950k) – trumping Sampdoria’s alleged contract offer of €0.7m (£600k) per year.
With us needing a playmaker, there may be something in this, but for now we’ll take it with a pinch of salt.
It could be a coup for the club if true. He’s said to have been watched by some of Europe’s top clubs and is tipped for bigs things by Croatia – with Man City’s Pep Guardiola being someone who’s believed to be an admirer of his.
Here’s him in action – he looks a talent!
