Newcastle make £11.5m bid to sign Italian international – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United have lodged an opening offer of around £11.5m to sign Juventus midfielder Stefan Sturaro.

This is reported by Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that the Italian has been deemed surplus to requirements by Massimiliano Allegri after playing a bit-part role in Juventus’ run to the Serie A title in the recent 2017/18 season.

This is not the first time Benitez has been credited with an interest in the all-action midfielder, with Sturaro’s agent admitting just last year that we had shown interest in signing the 25-year-old.

With Merino heavily linked with a move back to Spain, could this be the man Rafa is considering as his replacement? He would certainly fit the bill.

Leicester City and West Ham are also credited with an interest, but this link could have something in it. We’ve regularly linked with Sturaro for over 6 months now and there’s often no smoke without fire.

Whether we actually sign him is another matter (I think Juve will want quite a bit more than £11.5m), however he does appear to be someone we’re serious about signing.

Here’s him in action for those who haven’t seen him:

  1. Juve are reported to want something in the region of £20 million, so that’s a no go then. Typical of the current regime offer way below the sum wanted.
