NUFC outcast ‘seeks clarification on his future’ after club receive £6m bid – Report

Chancel Mbemba has asked NUFC for ‘clarification’ on his future after agreeing personal terms at Porto – with the Chronicle revealing that the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement after their £6m offer fell short of our £8m asking price.

The 23-year-old’s move to Portugal was described as ‘close’ this time last week, so many will have expected it to have been wrapped up by now , however it appears that the only thing left to sort is the transfer fee.

As a result, the Chronicle claim that Mbemba has now asked for ‘answers about his future’ after already agreeing personal terms with Porto – suggesting he’s eagerly awaiting the green light to sign whilst the two clubs haggle over a fee.

We seem to be holding out for £8m – and rightly so for a player of his age and potential – but it’s reported here that Porto have only offered £6m at this stage.

With us keen to cut the wage bill, create space in the squad and raise funds for Rafa, some may be tempted to see us cash in and move on, but the Chronicle claim that we’re standing firm on £8m after being ‘quoted some sky-high valuations on potential incoming players.’

Let’s hope we can come to agreement, and one that suits us too. Yes it’d be wise to cash in on a player Rafa doesn’t use, but Mbemba is one of the few players we should be able to demand decent money for, so it would be foolish to accept such a low fee – especially in a day and age where transfer fees seem so inflated.

  1. If Ashley has any silver lining to his dark cloudiness of gloom, it must be that he recognises where the silver is. I don’t much care what becomes of Mbemba – hope he gets to get on with his career, but if he takes the man’s shilling, he has to play by the man’s rules, and he clearly hasn’t been able to (and reputedly allowed his failings to get into his head and render him unselectable in the last half the season) – so only hope we can get a fair price for him if he does go. But so what, he may well do a Colback or Saivet and sit on his fat earnings doing next to nought. Provided Ashley doesn’t try to cash in on Shelvey or Lascelles or Jejeune, I don’t much care what silly-****** games he wants to play with squad-level players like Mbemba or even Merino. If they can’t sort themselves out and play from Rafa’s team-sheet, then they aren’t really in the mix to worry about.
