Rafa Benitez pictured back at St Jame’s Park ahead of meeting with NUFC officials

As confirmed by Lee Ryder, Rafa Benitez is back at St James’ Park today for a meeting with the Newcastle United board about the summer so far.

With the Chronicle admitting on several occasions that Benitez wanted ‘four or five’ in before pre-season training gets underway next week, I can’t imagine Rafa will be arriving in the best of spirits – with a simple deal for Martin Dubravka being the only signing we’ve pulled off thus far.

Here’s what the Chronicle have had to say on his return to St James’ today:

Rafa Benitez is back on Tyneside to attend a meeting at St James’ Park.

The Newcastle United manager is believed to be meeting with the club hierarchy to review the summer so far, but did not comment about transfers when speaking to fans outside the stadium.

Understandably, the Toon manager was inundated with requests for pictures and autographs as fans attending the club shop and ticket office got a major surprise.

Each and every fan told Benitez a similar message – with one lady saying: “Don’t go Rafa, we love you and want you to stay.”

Nice to see Rafa back on Tyneside and meeting with fans, but you get the feeling he’ll be a very frustrated man right now.

This summer is already building up to be another unbearable one for Rafa and us NUFC fans, with several players being linked with moves away from St James’ Park but so little action when it comes to incomings.

Let’s hope it’s a productive meeting for everybody’s sake.
