According to Italian journalist Giulia Stronati, Newcastle have now made a move to sign Italian midfielder Stefan Sturaro – offering Juventus an alleged €14m (£12m) plus bonuses.
This is backed up by fellow Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, who are even claiming that the 25-year-old has turned down a lucrative offer from China as he’s been ‘waiting for Newcastle’ to make a move – and it sounds like we might have.
Even though we’re crying out for news which confirms that we’ve FINALLY made a firm bid to sign someone this summer, it’s still wise to take this with a pinch of salt.
Yes Sturaro is a player we’ve been regularly linked with over the last 6 months – with his agent also confirming interest last year – however this is not the first time it’s been claimed in Italy that we’ve made a bid.
For that reason it’s hard to be sure if these claims are true, although you’d expect us to be making some moves for central midfielders given Mikel Merino’s imminent exit to Real Sociedad.

If it’s true it’s questionable as to whether this (£12m) would be enough for a player of his pedigree, but we can all live in hope.
Let’s hope this has some truth to it. Not because I desperately want to sign Sturaro, but because it’s about time we saw the club start making firm bids to sign players!
Really, Olly? Really!
SS is a good player. A bid for him is a good thing. I hope it is true …and comes off. But, he’s a midfielder.
Where is the striker we actually NEED!
I mean, WHERE – IS – THE – STRIKER – WE – ACTUALLY – NEED !
No. It’s no use shouting. No one at NUFC is listening…
