As confirmed on Friday night, ex-Swansea midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng has now completed an out the blue move to Newcastle United – and the reaction from fellow fans is surprisingly positive.
His South Korea side exited the World Cup this week and just days later it seems he’s undergone talks, completed a medical and signed a two-year-deal with the club on a free.
I for one think he’s a solid signing and good option to have in midfield, but given Merino looks all set to leave, I feared that the reaction fans would be a negative one, with many likely to see Ki as a cheap but uninspiring replacement for the Spaniard.
That being said, the response to his potential signing has been largely very positive – which is good to see.
Here’s some comments from NUFC fans on Twitter since the news broke:
The arrival of Ki on a free seems a cracking deal to me, if it’s followed with substantial investment on the squad. Tidy, experienced player with six years in the Premier League and still only 29 #NUFC

“Ki a decent addition to NUFC as a free agent squad player. Interesting that he has history playing alongside Shelvey at Swansea as well.”
“I loved Ki at Celtic, was always very neat n tidy and relaxed on the ball.”
“Did have better stats than Merino last season. Has achieved more in the league and we know how much RB likes experience. Could well be the case that he’s saving money for other positions”
