Benitez set to be handed £40m boost as trio close in on NUFC exits – Reports

It looks like Newcastle may be close to cashing in on a few players today, with various reports suggesting Merino, Mbemba and Mitrovic are closing in on moves to Real Sociedad, Porto and Fulham respectively.

Starting with Merino, the Chronicle have confirmed this morning that the Spaniard looks set to become a Real Sociedad player within the next 48 hours. His exit has always felt a inevitable given the constant links with a move back to La Liga, and his wish looks set to be granted after they matched his £10m release clause and we brought in Ki as a replacement.

Mbemba’s move to Porto has been in the pipeline for a few weeks now, however it’s been delayed due to their inability to match our alleged £8m asking price. It’s being reported in Portugal that they’ve upped their offer from £6m to £7m and it looks like they compromise might be enough to get the deal done.

And finally, Aleksandar Mitrovic. Sky Sports claim he’s now in talks with Fulham and looks set to complete a £20m move to Craven Cottage. With us pursuing a deal to sign a new striker – with Plea and Rondon strongly linked – it may be a real boost for Rafa to receive £20m for the big Serbian.

They’re three talented players and quite a few fans may be reluctant to see them leave, but it’ll be a good job done for Benitez if it raises £40m – especially when none appear to have a future on Tyneside.
