According to the Chronicle, both Alassane Plea and Salomon Rondon are keen to play under Rafa Benitez and secure moves to St James’ Park this summer.
Rondon has a release clause of £16.5m following West Brom’s relegation and it sounds like Benitez is a fan – despite him scoring just 28 goals in three Premier League seasons at the Hawthorns.
Plea – who scored 21 goals in France last season – sounds like Rafa’s preferred option and The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has confirmed that we have had a £20m bid rejected for the Nice striker.
So, if reports are to be believed, that’s now Kenedy, Townsend, Plea and Rondon who are very much open to the idea of signing for us this summer.
This, to me, is mainly down to the Rafa Benitez factor, however it’s not him who makes them happening. He can attract all he likes, but it’s the powers that be who must make these deals happen now if we really are serious about breaking our transfer record.
