The striker I think Rafa Benitez will end up signing this summer

By Richard Johnson

Newcastle United are in desperate need for a new striker this summer, and one that has the necessary pedigree to do the business for Benitez in the Premier League. That man could be Danny Ings, who looks set to leave Liverpool this summer.

Despite our 10th place finish, we scored a miserable 39 goals across the 2017/18 season and demonstrating our need for a significant upgrade in firepower if the team is to maintain or improve on their position next term.

Danny Ings may have struggled significantly with injuries over the last few seasons, but he’s proven himself to be a double-figure top-flight goalscorer in the past – and a player with a point to prove can be a dangerous one.

He offers the kind energy and persistence that could well suited to the Magpies. His effort can’t be questioned and with a run of games, a cut price deal could be ideal for him and Newcastle.

The only worry is would he be the next Rickie Lambert or Charlie Austin, or would he be too much of a risk based on his recent injury record?

The 25-year-old has worked with a personal trainer in the USA this summer to ensure he’s in top condition ahead of his next move and I think he could be a risk worth taking for Rafa. Especially if we’re looking for a handy striker with Premier League experience on a budget.

  1. Talk is he’s available at £9m – if that’s true that’s a risk worth taking imo. Especially when you consider that for just £4m less you can buy yourself a Joselu ??‍♂️.
He may not have played much for Lpool last season but certainly in the 2nd half he was on the bench quite a bit – which means he was fit to play at least.
For £9m we would be foolish not to take him.

Agreed – If fit, he’s better at PL level than Gayle
