NUFC have loan offer rejected for Brazilian – Told to buy outright if we want him – Report

According to Le10Sport, Newcastle United have had a loan offer rejected for Lille midfielder Thiago Maia – with the Ligue 1 side only willing to sell the midfielder ‘outright and immediately’.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Maia linked with a move to Tyneside, with him tipped to replace Mikel Merino at Newcastle by the same source (Le10Sport) just last month.

On this occasion, the French publication claim we’ve now had a loan offer (with an option to buy) turned down, with it seeming as though Lille have no interest in such a deal – and it’s no surprise really.

The 21-year-old featured for Brazil in the 2016 Olympics in Rio and joined Lille from Santos for £12m just last summer.

He’s no doubt someone we hold some sort of interest in, but with Ki already signed to take Merino’s place, I’d prefer if we looked to secure deals for a striker, Kenedy and a number 10 before another central midfielder?
