Sky Sports announce good news on Kenedy – Plus big update on Townsend & Ritchie deals

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are now close to re-signing Kenedy on a season-long loan after ‘positive’ talks with Chelsea – also claiming that Rafa Benitez is now ‘open’ to selling Matt Ritchie to fund a move for Andros Townsend.

This comes as a positive update for us NUFC fans, making it seem quite clear that Benitez is intent on bringing both Kenedy AND Townsend back to the club this summer.

It may be at Matt Ritchie’s expense – and it would be a shame to see him go – but I don’t think many would complain if his exit allowed us to have both Kenedy and Townsend operating down our left and right next season!

Here’s the latest from Sky Sports’ Pete Graves and Keith Downie:

At the minute it sounds like Kenedy’s arrival will be a straight loan with no option to buy (although this is not clear), whilst it seems as though Towsnend’s arrival will be dependant on our ability to sell Matt Ritchie – who would fund a move for the Palace winger.

  1. Ritchie left Bournemouth after their promotion to the EPL to join newly relegated Newcastle.
Lots of rats leave sinking ships some end up living in a palace (soz) …but Ritchie jumped on board, steadied the ship and helped us to a immediate return.

Ritchie for Townsend … really … nobody else think this is wrong?

I totally see what you’re saying. It seems a bit off to want Townsend back at Ritchie’s expense, I just think AT suits Rafa’s system much better than MT in the Premier League.

Ritchie’s lack of pace is evident in a counter attacking team that doesn’t see a great deal of the ball. Townsend’s work rate is good (so we wouldn’t lose energy), but he has it in him to take a man on and make things happen from nothing.

Without support from Yedlin, I’m not sure Ritchie can?

  4. in the four month we had Townsend Rafa made him into the player he used to be. top player at both Tottenham & England different option from Richie .if you follow Newcastle on a regular basis
you would see what Rafa can do with Quality players

  5. Too many saying AT jumped ship, forgetting he didn’t agitate for the move. Palace activated his release clause and gave him the option to move back to London (where he and his family are from) and remain in the Prem, with the obvious aim of remaining in the eye of the England manager. Hard to blame him for that surely?

  6. Easy to write about the toon whilst fatty is here. It’s all just different levels of bullshit. Some of it smells worse than at other times. Nothing changes.
