Jonjo Shelvey makes exciting Ki Sung-Yueng admission after playing alongside him at Swansea

Jonjo Shelvey has heaped praise on new NUFC signing Ki Sung-Yueng, claiming that the South Korean international is a ‘great lad’, a ‘very talented person’ and someone who brought the best out of him when they played together at Swansea.

The 29-year-old appears to be the man Rafa Benitez has signed to replace Mikel Merino and is a player Shelvey will know well after the pair partnered each other in the heart of Swansea’s midfield a few seasons ago.

Here’s what Jonjo has had to say when asked about the midfielder he’ll know more than most:

“Ki’s a great lad. He’s very neat and tidy on the ball. He’s just a great lad to have around.

“When I was at Swansea, we probably had the best season (2014-15) that Swansea have had in the Premier League.

“That was probably down to the midfield we had. We just clicked. It brings in another competitive face as well, so that’ll add to the squad. He’s a great player. He’s a very talented person.”

The fact Shelvey ‘clicked’ with him at Swansea can only bode well for us this season, with Ki certain to play alongside Jonjo at some point in the upcoming campaign.

Shelvey clearly rates him on so many levels, both as a person and as a footballer, so it will be very interesting to see how they perform when started together over the coming season.

Great to hear and more reasons to believe he will be a smart signing by Benitez – especially on a free!
