Despite our alleged offer of £20m, Alassane Plea is the latest player who will NOT be signing for NUFC this summer – with the Frenchman having completed a £23m move to Borussia Monchengladbach in the last few moments.
The 25-year-old was described as Rafa Benitez ‘top target’ as he ups his efforts to bring a new striker to St James’ Park, however today’s confirmation means he’s another name we’ll have to scratch off the list.
Both Sky and the Chronicle claimed that we had made a £20m bid for him just last week, but there’s been no update on proceedings since that – making us wonder if we ever had any intention of matching Nice’s £23m asking price.

Who knows, maybe he always preferred a move to Germany so we were told not to bother, but history would suggest that Ashley refused to get into a bidding war and stuck to his guns at £20m – despite Gladbach offering £23m.
Either way, a 25-year-old striker who scored over 20 goals last season for that price seems like decent business in this day and age.
Let’s hope it’s not another one we live to regret.
