Newcastle trying to sign striker who ‘impressed’ Rafa Benitez during the World Cup – Report

According to the Daily Mail, Rafa Benitez is now keen to sign Yoshinori Muto – the Japanese international striker who is said to have ‘impressed’ the Spaniard during this summer’s World Cup.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for Muto, who plays his football in Germany with Mainz.

The 26-year-old was a part of Japan’s side who did well to get through to the last 16 of this summer’s World Cup and is a player who’s been catching the eye in the Bundesliga over the last few seasons, scoring 20 and assisting 10 in 66 appearances.

Here’s what the Mail have had to say during their latest piece on Rafa’s transfer plans, admitting that he is now ‘keen’ on a move for Muto after being left ‘impressed’ by the 26-year-old:

“Benitez may need to sell before he can buy but Newcastle have yet to accept offers from Stoke for Matt Ritchie and from Fulham for Aleksandr Mitrovic.

“He is also keen on Yoshinori Muto, who impressed for Japan at the World Cup in Russia.”

The Mail aren’t the only ones crediting us with an interest in the striker either, with German outlet BILD claiming that we are now looking at Muto after failing to strike a deal for Rafa’s other targets so far this summer.

They claim that we may have to ‘fend off’ interest from West Ham to sign the Japan international, however:

A cheaper and younger alternative to Rondon perhaps?
