Has Rafa Benitez made another move to bring Andre Schurrle to NUFC?

After trying and failing to sign the former Chelsea forward on loan in January, it’s been confirmed today that Borussia Dortmund’s Andre Schurrle has now been ‘released’ to hold talks with an ‘unnamed’ Premier League club.

Now, we’re clutching at straws at little here, but Benitez has a history with this player from his days at Napoli and Chelsea (has tried to sign him on THREE separate occasions), having also made an alleged attempt to bring him to St James’ Park on loan in January (See confirmation of our January interest here)

With Schurrle out of favour at Dortmund, able to operate up top and out wide, having Premier League experience, and being a hard working player ideal for Rafa Benitez’s current system, there’s several elements of this deal that could make sense for NUFC.

He’s not the player he once was, but this is the sort of deal we’re being forced to do given Rafa’s limited budget and need to now ‘wheel and deal’?

It could we be another club in talks and, given our apparent inactivity in the market, it probably is, but this is the sort of deal we might just be pursuing – especially after Benitez insisted that he still needed to sign ‘two or three’ attackers just last week.

Reckon it could be us?

  2. Ashley’s people would have leaked this one to all and sundry if there was anything in it for NUFC. Lad clearly wants away, but not to paupers like us. 😥
