Some breaking news in the last few moments, with Newcastle United confirming that Chancel Mbemba has left the club – signing a four-year deal with Porto.
It’s being reported on the club’s official website as an ‘undisclosed fee’, however it’s been claimed by the Northern Echo that Newcastle look set to receive around £6.5m – despite setting an initial asking price of £8m.

Here’s what he’s had to say since completing the move:
“I’m going to do my best with this jersey.
“It’s a great happiness for me. Everyone knows FC Porto, a great club. I remember being in Africa and seeing FC Porto win the Champions League and I remember the great players that have come here.
“I’m very happy to sign for FC Porto.”
Ironically, Mbemba now signs just days before we’re due to face Portugal at the Estádio do Dragão – meaning he may be facing his former NUFC teammates as early as Saturday!
Good luck to him. He’s a talented player with the potential to become a very decent centre-back, however it was quite clear that it wasn’t going to work out for him under Rafa Benitez.
Now to find a replacement – and it sounds like Benitez could sign either Deportivo’s Fabian Schar (£3m) or Swansea’s Federico Fernandez (loan).
