Good news for NUFC – Full-back now ‘keen’ to secure a move to St James’ Park – Report

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle are interested in a deal to sign Bristol City star Joe Bryan – and he is understood to be ‘keen’ on a move to St James’ Park.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon first reported our interest in the highly-rated left-back over the weekend, claiming we were preparing a £6m bid.

Those rumours have persisted today and the Chronicle have now confirmed our interest, stating that the Championship club are now ‘resigned’ to losing him and looking for alternative options.

Here’s the latest on our interest via their live blog:

“Newcastle United have an interest in Joe Bryan on Bristol City – but it has not yet turned into a concrete offer for the Robins defender.

“He has a year left on his contract and, once again, United may have to “wheel and deal” to bring in the full-back. But the player is understood to be keen if a deal can be brokered.

“Bristol Live reports Bryan wants to move to the Premier League and that Bristol City are now looking at alternative options as they are resigned to Bryan leaving.”

So, it seems no official offer has been submitted as of yet, however it does look like Bryan is a player Benitez is keen to bring in.

This would be a very shrewd signing if we can pull it off. He was one of the best players in the Championship last season – bagging 7 goals and 3 assists from let-back – and looks more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

With Paul Dummett our only recognised left-back, he would give Benitez some much needed competition in that area – also offering decent versatility being able to operate as a left-winger also.

Here’s him in action:
