Rafa Benitez confirms ‘serious’ injury following pre-season draw with Hull – Worrying news

Speaking after our 2-2 draw with Hull City, Rafa Benitez has admitted that Florian Lejeune may have a ‘serious’ injury that the club must now assess – explaining why he was absent from Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly.

Gayle was also absent, whilst Kenedy was also allowed leave for family reasons due to his wife expecting the birth of their child, however this injury update on Lejeune is quite concerning.

Here’s what Rafa’s had to say after the game:

“The only one that is serious from these players (that were missing tonight) is Lejeune, who has a knee problem that we have to assess.”

With Mbemba being sold to Porto on Monday, this leaves just Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark as our only fit senior centre-backs – highlighting why Rafa had to use the likes of Yosef Yarney and Isaac Hayden during the friendly with Hull.

Let’s hope it’s not actually serious, but, either way, this highlights just how important the signing of a new centre-back is now.

  1. As I’m not rich enough to buy Ashley out, maybe a hit man could do the job?
“I want somebody to ‘buy me out…’ ” (Or similar words will do), mistaken for “take me out”. (English language lessons missed at school. Easy mistake to make your honour).
I know it’s a poor defence to put before a judge, but a whip round amongst the Toon Army would give the poor guy a luxurious lifestyle in there…. Someone might even consider it worthwhile.
My ‘go fund me’ page is… ?

  2. We are one injury away from trouble just being competitive; two injuries away from a relegation fight; three injuries away from going down… 🙁
