Rafa Benitez has offered an emphatic response when asked by Sky Sports if Newcastle could head into the new season without any more signing, stating ‘No! We WILL do something and we HAVE to do something!’.
With transfer deadline day just over two weeks away (two weeks on Thursday), time is ticking – especially when you consider that Benitez is believed to want at least another four or five new signings.
I don’t expect him to get that, suggesting it will be yet another below par and frustrating summer for the Spaniard, however the signing of at LEAST another striker and defensive cover feel essential.
Here’s what he’s had to say to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie asked if he could head into the new season with no more new signings:
