Defender now on his way Tyneside for medical after NUFC ‘agree fee’ – Report

According to The Mirror, Deportivo centre-back Fabian Schar is now on his way to Tyneside to complete a move after Newcastle agreed to pay his £3.5m release clause.

The Swiss defender’s name has emerged over the past few days and it looks like we’re finally set to get the deal done, with Chancel Mbemba’s move to Porto officially going through on Monday.

Here’s a snippet from The Mirror’s piece, confirming that a fee has now been agreed for Schar, with him expected to complete his medical today”

‘Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Swiss World Cup defender Fabian Schar.

‘Newcastle are on the verge of making centre back Schar their fourth summer signing after agreeing a fee of around £3.5m with Deportivo La Coruña, and the 26-year-old is believed to be having medical on Wednesday.

‘Schar, a commanding stopper who is composed on the ball, has been on Newcastle’s radar since his days at first club Basel where he won three Swiss titles.’

Sounds like a real bargain for a player with experience in La Liga, the Bundesliga, the Champions League and, most recently, the World Cup with Switzerland – especially when he’s only 26.
