Striker now ‘on the verge’ of NUFC move? Club director drops clear hint after news of agreement

According to German outlet ‘Kicker’, Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto is now ‘on the verge’ of sealing a move to Newcastle – with Mainz director Rouven Schröder also admitting that an ‘English’ club has now stepped up their interest.

This now backs up the Daily Mail’s claims that we were in advanced talks to sign the forward in a deal worth £9m, with Kicker now reporting that the move is close after the two clubs have ‘virtually’ come to an agreement on price.

In addition, here’s what Mainz director Rouven Schröder has had to say when asked about the rumoured interest from England:

“The English have definitely woken up..

“There is now increased interest in Yoshi.”

This, combined with the latest reports in England, Germany and Japan, really do make it sound like there could be something in this.

Muto, 26,  is not a household name, but his goalscoring record has been quite handy over the last two years in Germany – with him scoring 20 goals in his last 65 outings in the Bundesliga.

It’s not a prolific return, but if you factor in his 10 assists, he’s contributing a goal or an assist every other game in the Bundesliga.
