Less than 48 hours into life as a Porto player, Chancel Mbemba is already on crutches and being pushed around on a wheelchair – with him sustaining an injury to his left knee during a friendly with Farnese on Wednesday morning (his first game for the club).
The 23-year old only became a Porto player on Monday, eventually completing his long awaited move from NUFC for a fee in the region of £5-6m, however he’s endured a pretty unideal start to life in Portugal.
As a result, he now looks certain to miss our pre-season friendly with the Portuguese giants on Saturday – a game that’s now set to kick off at 8pm (not 7.30pm) at the Estádio do Dragão this weekend.
FC Porto's new signing Chancel Mbemba injured his knee in his first pre-season match for the club on Wednesday against Farense. Looks like a sprain, rather than ligament damage. Returned to Porto from the Algarve on Wednesday in a wheelchair. Will be evaluated by team doctors.

It sounds like the injury is not too serious – with the Portuguese reporter suggesting in the tweet above that it’s a sprain opposed to ligament damage – however he’s now in a wheelchair and needing to be assessed fully by the club’s doctors.
Not the best of starts to his career at Porto and sods law for him given he spent so much time fit and ready to play at Newcastle, yet left out in the cold by Rafa Benitez.
Hopefully he can make a full recovery and get that cast off as soon as possible!

When I saw the pictures I thought he’d injured his knee getting off the plane.
