Mainz release statement following claims that NUFC have agreed £9.5m deal for Yoshinori Muto

Mainz have released a statement confirming that they have now reached an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Yoshinori Muto – with this coming after claims today that we had agreed a £9.5m fee for the Japanese striker.

The statement admits that a deal is ‘largely agreed’ – with only the ‘formalities’ needing to be done before he makes the move official.

He was pictured onboard a flight from Tokyo earlier today and had told Japenese press that he was hoping for ‘good news’ soon on the deal – and this seems to be it, suggesting the move is now imminent.

Here’s the statement from the club and their director, Rouven Schröder :

“The clubs are, as far as the terms of the contract, largely agreed, however, are around the change still time-consuming formalities to be done.”

Mainz’s director Rouven Schröder has also had the following to say on the deal:

“We have had good and constructive discussions with Newcastle United and we have come to an agreement in principle.

“There are still some key details to clarify, but we are confident that we will soon reach a final transfer decision.”

Looks like this one’s all but done!

20 goals in 66 games in the Bundesliga and a player that featured for Japan at this summer’s World Cup.

Happy?

  1. Looking at him he can play anywhere across the forward line so a very useful player to have. I’d even consider playing him ahead of Ritchie for a bit pace when we need it. He’s played in wide positions before. In terms of being our number 9 I don’t see it. I hope the articles stating we’re still after Rondon are true because I think they could really compliment each other. Of course I’d love if we would just spunk 30 million on a forward instead of Rondon, but it’s just not going to happen unfortunately.
