According to some breaking news from Sky in the last few moments, Salomon Rondon’s proposed move from West Brom to Newcastle has now ‘stalled’ as two clubs ‘struggle’ to find an agreement.
The player has a £16.5m release clause, but it seems as though we were pursuing a deal that would see Dwight Gayle go the other way.
The big issue – as reported by The Times’ George Caulkin last night – seems to be that Gayle is keen on leaving St James’ Park, making it seem as though we are only prepared to sanction a deal for Rondon if Gayle goes the other way.
Bad news for Benitez and pathetic that the club are relying on Gayle’s exit to sign Rondon – especially after we’ve just sold Aleksandar Mitrovic for £22m.
