The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas insists there is ‘NO truth’ in claims from Belgium this morning that we’ve had a bid accepted for Anderlecht striker Isaac Kiese Thelin.
HLN had reported that our £5.3m had now been accepted for the 6ft 2′ Swede, however Mark has confirmed in the last few moments that we are not interested and will ‘looking elsewhere’ after he ‘checked out’ the rumour this morning and found there was nothing doing:
Checked this out now. Been told this morning NO truth in this.#nufc looking elsewhere. https://t.co/A9aQj3HOgr

Whilst the signing of a striker between now and next Thursday feel pretty essential, it’s probably a relief to hear this is not a player we’re in for.
Thelin can’t even get in Anderlecht’s team – having been loaned out to a fellow Belgian side last season – and has rarely been prolific despite playing in some of the weaker European leagues throughout his career.
Where we go next remains to be seen, but with Rafa not knowing his budget, having ‘no idea’ on new signings and Rondon’s release clause said to have now expired, it’s looking pretty bleak.
7 days to go to salvage our summer.
