Rafa Benitez has revealed that new £9.5m signing Yoshinori Muto will give his team ‘energy’, ‘intensity’, ‘good movement’ and ‘quality’ following confirmation of his arrival today – stating he’s a player that he’s been following for ‘quite a while’.
The 26-year old’s move to Tyneside was all but confirmed last week, however the transfer has now been officially finalised after he was granted a work permit at a hearing today.
Here’s what Benitez has said when speaking to NUFC.co.uk about the striker – who’s become the first Japanese player EVER to play for Newcastle United :
“I am really pleased to have Yoshinori Muto with us. We were following him for quite a while.
“Hopefully he can bring us his energy and work-rate and help the team to improve and be better for the new season.”
Benitez also had the following to say about him in a recent interview over the weekend, touching on his quality, his movement and ‘intensity’ up top:
“He has done well in the Bundesliga so we are talking about a striker that is doing well in the last few years at international level.
“He has quality & can bring us energy & good movement plus the intensity you need.
Sounds good to me!
Mutō has made 25 appearances for his country – also playing in their World Cup defeat to Poland this summer – and had bagged 20 goals and 10 assists in 66 games for Bundesliga side Mainz.
Unfortunately, the club have confirmed that he will NOT be available to make his debut during Saturday’s pre-season friendly with FC Augsburg on St James’ Park, with him having to finalise the ‘formalities of the visa process’.
Here’s a clip of him in action while we wait:
