After Alan Shearer wished him ‘good luck’ at Newcastle after sealing as season-long loan move last night, Salomon Rondon has responded – saying it makes him ‘very proud’ to wear his number 9 shirt, stating he’ll give his all to ‘do the shirt justice’.
After weeks of talks between Newcastle and West Brom, Rondon’s move to Tyneside was finally sealed yesterday – albeit as part of a ‘loan swap’ which saw Dwight Gayle join the Baggies as a result.
The 28-year old Venezuelan has been immediately handed the famous number 9 shirt, with Alan Shearer taking to Twitter late last night to wish him ‘good luck’ ahead of the new season.
Here’s the pair’s exchange on Twitter as a result:

‘Many thanks, Alan Shearer!!!
‘It makes me very proud and it’s an honour to wear the number 9 shirt that you had so much success in.
‘I’ll be giving my all to do the shirt justice.’

Good luck Salomon. He’s got some big boots to fill but I for one am right behind him!
I’d laugh if gayle turns out to be the better player out the 2 and bangs goals galor in for the baggies.
