After news that Newcastle have now agreed a loan deal to sign Barcelona defender Marlon Santos, North-East reporter George Caulkin has admitted that the Brazilian’s work permit ‘will be an issue’.
Catalan paper ‘Sport’ broke the news this afternoon, claiming the 22-year old has now agreed a season-long loan move to St James’ Park, however the deal looks set to hinge on whether or not he’ll be granted a work permit.
Unfortunately, George Caulkin’s latest comments don’t fill us with too much confidence, with The Times reporter stating that the work permit may be ‘an issue’:
Think it’s that Barcelona lad, but work permit will be an issue.

When asked about the work permit situation, the following has also been said by La Liga writer Andrew Gaffney:
“There’s no indication of when it was applied for, how long it’d take, and whether there would be time for it to be given the green light.
“So unfortunately I can’t help you with that. Only that terms between the clubs – and with the player – have been agreed.”
